Voopoo designs its own chipsets under the GENE name and has spent several device generations refining two coil platforms, PnP and ITO. The Voopoo ranges explained
Argus
Argus is Voopoo's everyday refillable range. The Argus P2, P3, A, G3 and E40 sit at the compact end of the catalogue with magnetic pods and adjustable airflow on most models. The P series leans towards a pen or pebble shaped body for pocket carry. The E and G models add a screen and variable wattage for vapers who want to tune the output.
Drag
Drag is the performance line. The Drag X2, Drag X3, Drag Q, Drag S2, Drag H40 and Drag H80S all pair the GENE chipset with higher wattage ceilings than a basic pod pen. The H series takes a removable 18650 cell so you can carry a charged spare instead of hunting for a USB port. Drag devices suit vapers who want a restricted direct to lung draw or who intend to run sub ohm PnP coils for denser vapour.
Vinci
Vinci sits between the two. The original Vinci Pod Kit is one of the cheapest ways into the PnP coil ecosystem and the Vinci E80 gives you a larger battery with a wattage display. PnP and ITO coils explained
Voopoo splits its pods across two coil systems. PnP coils push into the pod from underneath and cover a wide resistance spread, from around 1.2 ohm for mouth to lung right down to 0.15 ohm mesh for direct to lung clouds. ITO coils are the newer, slimmer format used across much of the Argus and Doric line, again with both MTL and sub ohm resistances available.
Check which system your chosen kit uses before you order spares. The two are not interchangeable, although within each system compatibility across devices is broad. Coils rated above 1.0 ohm are mouth to lung coils and coils rated below 1.0 ohm are sub ohm coils. That number decides your e-liquid far more than the device model does.
Choosing your draw style
Mouth to lung. A tight, restricted draw where vapour is held in the mouth first. It is the closest sensation to a cigarette. Close the airflow ring down, fit a coil above 1.0 ohm and run a 10ml nic salt at 10mg to 20mg.
Restricted direct to lung. A middle setting that inhales straight to the lungs while keeping some resistance in the draw. Most Argus and Vinci kits handle this well with a 0.6 ohm or 0.8 ohm coil.
Direct to lung. Airflow wide open, a mesh coil below 0.4 ohm and a high VG shortfill at 3mg or 6mg. The Drag pod mods are built for it.
Battery, charging and running costs
Internal batteries across this collection run from roughly 800mAh on the smallest pens up to 3000mAh on the larger Argus and Vinci models. USB-C charging is standard. A box normally holds the device, pods, coils where they are sold separately, a cable and the paperwork. E-liquid is never included.
The device is a one off cost. Coils, pods and e-liquid are the recurring ones and within two months they will exceed what you paid for the kit. Expect to change a coil every one to two weeks. Sweet dessert and candy flavours contain sucralose that caramelises onto the mesh and will shorten that considerably.
Buying Voopoo in the UK
Vaping products are sold to adults aged 18 and over only. Nicotine containing e-liquid sold in the UK is capped at 20mg per ml, bottles containing nicotine are limited to 10ml and pods supplied filled with nicotine e-liquid are limited to 2ml. Which Voopoo pod kit is best for a beginner?
A simple draw activated device with no menus is the easiest start, so look at the VMATE, Doric or Argus P series. Fit a coil above 1.0 ohm, close the airflow most of the way and use a 10ml nic salt. That gives a tight cigarette style draw with nothing to set up beyond charging the device and filling the pod.
Are Voopoo PnP and ITO coils interchangeable?
No. PnP and ITO are two separate coil platforms and they will not fit each other's pods. Within a platform compatibility is wide, so a PnP coil bought for a Drag will normally work in a Vinci pod. Check which system your kit uses before ordering spares, because the pod dictates the coil rather than the battery.
What is the GENE chip in a Voopoo kit?
GENE is the name Voopoo gives its own chipset. It handles power delivery to the coil, reads the coil resistance and manages safety cut offs such as short circuit and overtime protection. On devices with a screen it also provides variable wattage. The benefit is a consistent, fast firing draw and automatic recognition of the coil you fit.
How often should I change a Voopoo coil?
One to two weeks is typical. Sweet, dark or dessert e-liquids shorten that because the sucralose in them caramelises onto the mesh. The warning signs are a dull or burnt taste, less vapour and a harsher draw. Prime properly by wetting the cotton through the side ports, then wait five minutes after filling before the first puff.
What e-liquid should I use in a Voopoo pod kit?
The coil resistance decides it. Coils above 1.0 ohm are mouth to lung coils and want a balanced 50/50 PG to VG liquid such as a 10ml nic salt at up to 20mg per ml. Coils below 1.0 ohm need a thicker high VG shortfill, usually 70/30, at 0mg to 6mg. Thin liquid in a sub ohm pod will leak.
