Grinders & Scales

Grinders and scales sit on the smoking accessories side of the Vapestore Direct range, next to the rolling papers, tips, trays and pipes. This collection holds 13 products covering lightweight acrylic grinders, CNC machined metal four part grinders with a kief screen and pollen chamber, novelty cased grinders and flat card shredders that slip into a wallet. Prices open at £1.99 and reach £15.99.

A grinder is a tool rather than a consumable, so the decision comes down to material, machining and thread quality rather than anything that runs out. A properly cut aluminium body with sharp teeth and a magnetic lid will still be turning smoothly long after the papers you bought alongside it have gone. Everything on this page is sold to adults aged 18 and over only.

How a grinder is put together

The part count in a product name tells you how many chambers the grinder has. More chambers means better separation of the material as it falls through, at the cost of extra height and weight in the pocket.

Two part grinders

Two part grinders are a lid and a base with interlocking teeth. Ground material stays in the chamber it was cut in. The 60mm acrylic units here are the lightest and cheapest option at £1.99, which makes them a sensible spare rather than a daily driver.

Four part grinders

Four part grinders add a collection chamber below the teeth, then a fine mesh screen with a pollen catcher underneath. Most of the metal grinders stocked here are four part designs, including the 40mm Shark Tooth and Diamond units at £8.99 and the 62mm Domed grinder at £11.99. The RAW Hammercraft at £15.99 is the heaviest machined option in the range.

Acrylic or metal

Acrylic keeps the weight and the price down. The teeth are moulded rather than machined so they blunt faster. Threads can also bind if the body flexes. Metal grinders are machined from aluminium or zinc alloy on a CNC lathe, which gives sharp teeth with consistent spacing and a thread that keeps turning for years. Metal bodies also take a magnetic lid closure that stops the top popping off in a bag.

Choosing a diameter

Diameter is quoted in millimetres across the lid. A 40mm grinder is the pocketable size and the most commonly bought. Stepping up to 50mm or 62mm gives a wider grinding surface, a deeper collection chamber and less refilling.

Card shredders

The RAW 3-Way Shredder Grinder Card at £6.99 is a flat stainless steel card that sits in a wallet alongside your papers. It has no chambers and no moving parts. You draw the material across the raised cutting surface instead of twisting a lid. It is a travel solution rather than a replacement for a chambered grinder.

Scales in this collection

This collection is configured to pull in both grinders and scales. At the time of writing every product it returns is a grinder, so if you came here specifically for digital scales it is worth checking back or calling the team to ask what is due in.

Grinder questions answered

What is the difference between a 2 part and a 4 part grinder?

A two part grinder is just a lid and a base, so the ground material sits on the teeth until you open it. A four part grinder adds a collection chamber below the teeth, a fine mesh screen and a pollen catcher beneath that. The extra chambers give a more even grind because material drops away as soon as it is cut.

Are metal grinders better than acrylic ones?

For daily use, yes. Metal grinders are CNC machined from aluminium or zinc alloy, which produces sharp evenly spaced teeth and a thread that keeps turning smoothly for years. Acrylic teeth are moulded rather than cut so they blunt faster and the body can flex enough to bind the thread. Acrylic still makes sense as a cheap spare at £1.99.

What size grinder should I buy?

40mm is the standard pocket size and the most popular diameter we sell. Move up to 50mm or 62mm if you want a wider cutting surface, a deeper collection chamber and fewer refills, which suits home use. Bear in mind that a larger grinder is noticeably heavier once it is machined from solid metal.

What is the kief screen for?

The kief screen is the fine mesh layer that separates the collection chamber from the bottom compartment on a four part grinder. The finest particles fall through the mesh and gather in the pollen catcher underneath. Handle it carefully when cleaning because it deforms easily and a bent screen will not sit flat again.

How do I clean a grinder?

Take it apart, brush the residue out of the teeth and lift the screen out gently. Metal bodies can be soaked in isopropyl alcohol to shift anything sticky, then rinsed and dried completely before reassembly. Do not use alcohol on acrylic because it clouds the plastic. Nothing here should go in a dishwasher.

Do I have to be 18 to buy a grinder?

Yes. Smoking accessories are restricted to adults aged 18 and over in the UK. Every order placed with Vapestore Direct is age verified before it leaves the warehouse and we may ask for identification. UK delivery is free on orders over £20.
