Innokin coils are the replaceable heads that sit inside an Innokin tank or pod and do the actual work of turning e-liquid into vapour. The single most important thing to know before ordering is that Innokin coils are family specific rather than universal. Which Innokin coil fits which kit
Zenith and Zlide: the Z coil family
Innokin's Z coils are the most widely used head in the range. They are shared across the Zenith and Zlide tank families, which is unusually convenient given how many Innokin kits ship with one of those tanks. Z coils are sold in several resistances covering both restricted mouth to lung and looser direct to lung draws, so check the listing for the exact rating before ordering.
Endura T18, T20 and T22
The Endura line has its own coils and they are not interchangeable with Z coils. T18E and T22E share a coil. There is also a mesh version of that head for anyone who wants faster ramp up on the same kit. The original T18 and the T20 Prism take different heads again. Prism S coils serve the Prism S and T20-S tanks. Read the model suffix on your device carefully because a single letter separates two incompatible parts.
Sceptre, Jem, Crios and Slipstream
Each of these is a self contained family with a dedicated coil. The Sceptre coil fits the Sceptre kit and tank. The Jem coil fits the Jem pen. Crios and Slipstream take their own heads. None of them cross over, so keep the device name to hand when reordering.
Older and sub ohm families

Mesh versus round wire
A traditional coil is a length of round wire wound into a spiral. A mesh coil replaces that with a perforated strip of metal presented as a single flat sheet. The practical difference is surface area. Mesh heats a much larger area of cotton at once, so it reaches temperature faster, runs cooler for the same wattage and generally reads as smoother with more pronounced flavour. Round wire coils tend to last a little longer and are usually cheaper. If your device has both options, as the T18E and T22E do, mesh is the better starting point for flavour.
Resistance and wattage
Resistance is printed on the side of every coil in ohms. As a rule, anything above 1.0 ohm is a mouth to lung coil. It runs at low wattage, gives a tight cigarette like draw and pairs with a 50/50 balanced e-liquid such as a 10ml nic salt at up to 20mg per ml. Anything below 1.0 ohm is a sub ohm or restricted direct to lung coil. It runs hotter, produces far more vapour and needs a high VG shortfill at a low nicotine strength.
Every coil carries a recommended wattage range. Staying inside it matters. Running under the range gives thin, cool vapour with muted flavour. Running over it burns the cotton faster than liquid can reach it, which is the quickest way to ruin a new head.
Priming and fitting a new coil
Take the new coil out of its wrapper and drip e-liquid directly into each of the wicking ports on the side until the visible cotton has darkened. Fit the coil, fill the tank or pod, then leave it standing for at least five minutes so the cotton saturates fully. Start at the lower end of the recommended wattage for the first few draws and work upwards. Skipping the standing time is the single most common reason a coil tastes burnt on day one.
What shortens coil life
Expect one to two weeks from a coil in normal use. Sweetened e-liquids are the biggest variable. Sucralose in dessert, candy and sweet fruit blends caramelises on the wire and leaves a dark residue that dulls flavour long before the cotton actually fails. Dark tobacco and heavily coloured liquids do the same. Light fruits and menthols are far kinder. Chain vaping without letting the wick recover and letting the tank run low both cook the cotton directly.

Are Innokin coils interchangeable between kits?
Only within a family. Z coils are shared across the Zenith and Zlide tanks, which covers a large part of the Innokin range. Beyond that they are model specific. An Endura T18E coil will not fit a Sceptre and a Jem coil will not fit a Zenith. Always match the coil to the device name printed on your kit.
Which Innokin coil does the Zenith take?
The Zenith uses Innokin Z coils, the same family used by the Zlide tanks. Z coils come in several resistances aimed at different draw styles, so check the resistance printed on the listing and on the coil itself before ordering to make sure it matches how you vape.
How long should an Innokin coil last?

Why does my new coil taste burnt straight away?
Nearly always insufficient priming. The cotton needs to be fully saturated before any power reaches it, so drip liquid into the ports and let the filled tank stand for five minutes. The other common causes are starting at too high a wattage and vaping with the tank almost empty, which starves the wick.
