A pod is the part that holds your e-liquid and sits against the battery. Depending on the device it either contains a permanently fitted coil that dies with the pod or it accepts a separate replaceable coil and lasts far longer. Knowing which type your kit uses tells you whether you should be buying pods every fortnight or once every few months.
Find the right pod for your device
Pod fitment is proprietary. Manufacturers do not build to a shared standard the way tanks use a 510 thread, so a Caliburn pod will not fit an Xros and an XLIM pod will not fit an Argus. Three checks will get you the correct part every time.
Match the exact model name. Not just the brand and not just the series. Caliburn G3 and Caliburn G3 Pro use different pods. Xros series pods have moved through COREX and COREX 2.0 to COREX 3.0. Read the full name printed on your device or on the box.
Check the generation. Many brands keep a family name across several redesigns. Oxva sells both a top fill XLIM pod and pods for the newer NeXlim. Vaporesso pods differ by COREX version even where the tank body looks similar.
Check whether the pod is empty or coil fitted. Some listings are an empty pod shell for a device that takes separate coils. Others are a complete pod with a coil built in. The Sigelei Humvee 80 replacement is an empty pod, for example.

Integrated coil pods
The coil is bonded into the pod and cannot be removed. When the flavour dulls you throw the pod away and clip in a fresh one. These are simple and leak resistant. The running cost is higher because you are replacing plastic as well as cotton and wire. SMOK Novo, Aspire GOTEK X and most Elf Bar pods work this way.
Replaceable coil pods
The pod is an empty reservoir with a coil that pushes or screws into the base. A pod can last months while the coil is swapped every week or two, which brings the cost per week down noticeably. Oxva XLIM, Uwell Caliburn G series and Vaporesso Xros all use this arrangement, which is why you will find both empty pods and coil packs listed for them.
Resistance and what it means for your vape
Pods and coils are rated in ohms. The number tells you the draw style before you ever fit it.
1.0 ohm and above. Tight mouth to lung. Low wattage, low vapour, quick nicotine delivery. Pair with a 50/50 nic salt at 10mg or 20mg. This is the closest sensation to a cigarette.
0.6 ohm to 0.9 ohm. The pod kit default. Slightly warmer and looser with more vapour. Still happy on a 50/50 salt, though a pod focused shortfill also works.
Below 0.6 ohm. Restricted lung. Higher wattage, considerably more vapour and much faster liquid consumption. Drop to 3mg or 6mg from a shortfill, because 20mg at this resistance is harsh.
Mesh has largely replaced round wire in modern pods. A mesh strip heats evenly across a larger surface area, which means faster ramp up, better flavour and usually a longer life than an equivalent wound coil.
Priming a new pod properly
Most pods that die in the first day were never primed. The cotton inside a fresh pod is dry. Firing dry cotton scorches it permanently.
Drip two or three drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed cotton visible through the wicking ports. Fill the pod. Clip it into the device and leave it standing upright for five to ten minutes. Take two or three short draws with the device switched off to pull liquid through. Then start vaping at the lower end of the recommended wattage and work up. Once a pod tastes burnt there is no recovery, so the five minutes is worth spending.
How long a pod should last
One to two weeks is the normal working life for a coil, whether that coil sits inside a pod or slots into one. What shortens it is almost always the e-liquid rather than the hardware. Sweet dessert, candy and soda flavours contain sucralose that caramelises onto the mesh under heat and forms a dark crust. Vapers who live on those profiles often replace pods weekly. Mint, menthol and simple fruit blends are far kinder and can stretch a pod to three weeks.
Dark liquids stain. A pod that has gone brown is not necessarily finished, though a pod that tastes flat or acrid is. Chain vaping and running the reservoir low both accelerate wear, since the cotton cannot rewick fast enough between draws.
Stopping leaks and gurgling
Leaks are usually a wicking mismatch or a pressure problem rather than a faulty pod. Using a thick 70/30 shortfill in a pod designed for 50/50 liquid starves the cotton. Using thin liquid in a low resistance pod floods it. Fill to the marked line rather than to the brim so the air pocket can do its job, avoid liquid entering the central airway during filling and let a newly filled pod settle before drawing. Gurgling normally means condensation in the airway, which a quick blow through the pod onto a tissue will clear.
Buying replacement pods in the UK
Pods sold with nicotine e-liquid already in them are limited to 2ml under UK regulations. Empty replacement pods for refillable devices are not restricted in the same way, which is why some pods in this collection are larger. Nicotine e-liquid itself is capped at 20mg per ml in bottles of 10ml or less. Single use vapes have been prohibited from sale in the UK since 1 June 2025, so replacing a pod rather than a whole device is now the standard way to keep a kit running. Are replacement pods and replacement coils the same thing?
No. Some pods have the coil permanently bonded inside, so you replace the whole pod when the flavour fades. Others are an empty reservoir that takes a separate coil, in which case the pod lasts months while the coil is changed every week or two. Check your device before ordering, because buying the wrong one is the most common mistake.
How often should I change my pod?

Why does my new pod taste burnt straight away?
It was almost certainly fired before the cotton had soaked. Drip a few drops onto the exposed cotton through the wicking ports, fill the pod, then leave it standing upright for five to ten minutes before the first draw. Take a couple of pulls with the device off to draw liquid through. Once cotton has scorched there is no way to recover it.
What does the ohm rating on a pod mean?
It is the electrical resistance of the coil and it sets the draw style. Anything at 1.0 ohm or above is a tight mouth to lung pod for low wattage and a 50/50 nic salt. Between 0.6 and 0.9 ohm is the pod kit middle ground. Below 0.6 ohm is a restricted lung pod that produces far more vapour and wants a low strength shortfill instead.
Why is my pod leaking?
Usually the liquid does not match the pod. A thick 70/30 shortfill in a pod built for 50/50 will starve the cotton, while thin liquid in a low resistance pod floods it. Filling past the marked line removes the air pocket the pod relies on. Liquid getting into the central airway during filling will run straight through. Fill to the line and let a fresh pod settle before drawing.
Can I refill a pod that was sold pre-filled?
Refillable pods are designed for it and have a sealed fill port. Pods supplied ready filled for a pre-filled pod kit are generally intended to be swapped rather than topped up. Forcing liquid into one can damage the seal or flood the coil. Check the product page, since some devices offer both a pre-filled pod and a separate refillable version.
What e-liquid should I use in a replacement pod?
Match the liquid to the resistance. Pods above 0.6 ohm want a balanced 50/50 blend, which in the UK means a 10ml nic salt or freebase bottle at up to 20mg per ml. Pods below 0.6 ohm need a high VG shortfill at 3mg or 6mg. Using a high VG liquid in a tight pod is the fastest way to burn it out.
