Building your own coils is the cheapest way to vape once the kit is paid for, since a metre of wire and a bag of cotton costs less than a couple of stock coils. It is also the most demanding. You need to understand resistance, wicking and battery safety before you fire anything, so this range suits experienced vapers rather than anyone setting up a first device.
RBA, RTA, RDA and RDTA
The letters describe where the e-liquid sits. An RBA is the broad term for any rebuildable deck, including the small decks sold as an upgrade for a tank that normally takes stock coils. An RDA is a dripper with no reservoir, so you drip onto the wick directly and get the purest flavour at the cost of constant attention. An RTA surrounds the deck with a tank that feeds the wicks through channels. An RDTA sits between the two with the juice well below the deck.

Building and wicking
Seat the coil centrally between the posts and tighten the screws evenly so the legs are not crushed. Pulse it gently on a low wattage to check it glows from the middle outwards, strumming any hot spots out with ceramic tweezers before the cotton goes near it. Wicking is where most builds fail. Thread the cotton through the coil with light friction rather than forcing it, then trim and tuck the tails so they touch the juice channels without packing them solid. Too much cotton gives a dry hit. Too little floods the deck.
Resistance, wattage and safety
Always check the resistance on a regulated device or an ohm reader before firing. A regulated mod refuses builds outside its safe range and that protection is worth having. Mechanical devices give you none of it, so a build below 0.2 ohm demands a genuine understanding of the current your cells can deliver. Single coil builds around 0.3 to 0.5 ohm suit most sub ohm tanks. Builds above 0.8 ohm suit tighter mouth to lung setups.
Fitment and the rules that apply
Most rebuildable tanks use a standard 510 thread, so they will sit on any regulated mod with a 510 connector. Check the base diameter first, because a 25mm tank overhangs a 22mm mod. Boro and pod specific decks only fit the platform they were made for. UK regulations cap a tank sold with nicotine e-liquid at 2ml and cap strength at 20mg per ml. What does RBA stand for?
RBA stands for rebuildable atomiser. It covers any atomiser where you install your own coil and cotton instead of screwing in a sealed factory coil. Some RBAs are complete tanks. Others are small decks sold to convert a tank that normally runs stock coils into a rebuildable one.
What is the difference between an RBA, an RTA and an RDA?
RBA is the umbrella term for anything you build yourself. An RTA holds a reservoir of e-liquid around the deck that feeds the wicks continuously. An RDA has no reservoir, so you drip straight onto the cotton every few puffs. RDAs give the sharpest flavour. RTAs give the convenience of a tank.
Is building your own coils cheaper?
Once the atomiser is paid for, yes. A spool of wire and a bag of organic cotton cost a fraction of what stock coils cost across a year. Factor in an ohm reader and a decent pair of ceramic tweezers when you work out the saving.
Will an RBA deck fit any tank?
No. Decks are made for one specific tank or pod platform. A NexMesh Pro deck fits the NexMesh Pro tank. An Aegis Boost RBA pod fits the Aegis Boost. Complete rebuildable tanks are more flexible because most use a standard 510 thread.
What resistance should I build to?
For a sub ohm tank on a regulated mod, a single coil between 0.3 and 0.5 ohm is a sensible target and runs comfortably in the 25 to 45 watt range. Tighter mouth to lung builds usually sit above 0.8 ohm at much lower power. Always read the resistance before firing and stay inside the limits your device states.
Are rebuildables suitable for beginners?
They are not the place to start. Rebuildables assume you can read a resistance, understand what your batteries can safely deliver and wick a coil without flooding it. If you are new to vaping, a pod kit with stock coils is the right first device.
