Batteries for mods with removable cells
Cell sizes
Lithium ion cells are named after their dimensions in millimetres. An 18650 is 18mm across and 65mm long. A 20700 is 20mm by 70mm. A 21700 is 21mm by 70mm. The mod dictates which one it takes. A 21700 mod will usually accept an 18650 with an adaptor sleeve, though the reverse is never true. The Golisi S26 is an 18650, while the Golisi S32 and the Innokin Ampking are 20700 cells.
Capacity against current
Two numbers matter on a cell. Capacity in mAh tells you how long it runs between charges. The continuous discharge rating in amps tells you how hard it can be pushed safely. The two work against each other. A high capacity cell rarely carries a high amp rating, so a sub ohm build at high wattage needs the amp figure prioritised over the mAh figure. A gentler mouth to lung setup can take the higher capacity cell instead.
Wraps, pairing and carrying cells safely
Three habits prevent nearly every problem people have with removable cells. Inspect the wrap. Any nick or tear that exposes bare metal near the positive end needs rewrapping before the cell goes back in a mod. Keep pairs together. In a dual cell device, both cells should be the same model bought at the same time, charged together and used together. Carry spares in a plastic case. Loose cells rattling against keys or coins in a pocket are the classic cause of a short.
Chargers
An external charger is the sensible companion to any mod with removable cells. It lets you charge a spare set while a charged set is in the device. It shows you what each cell is actually doing. It also takes the charging load off the mod's own circuit. The EFEST Slim K4 is a four bay USB-C unit of this type. Charge on a hard surface rather than on a bed or a sofa. Stay in the building while it runs.
Devices with built in batteries
Most pod kits and AIO devices have the cell sealed inside. There is nothing to swap, so the accessory that matters is a decent cable. Use the cable supplied or a plain USB-C lead rather than a high output fast charging plug, since a gentler current is easier on a small cell over a couple of years. If a built in battery has stopped holding charge, it is the device that needs replacing rather than a component.

Drip tips
Two standards dominate. A 510 tip has the narrow post found on mouth to lung tanks and pods. An 810 tip is the wide bore version used on sub ohm tanks. Bore width changes the draw, so a narrow tip tightens the inhale while a wide one opens it up and cools the vapour. Innokin Zenith 2 and T18 tips are 510 parts. Voopoo Doric Galaxy replacement tips are POM, which is worth knowing because POM stays much cooler in the mouth than stainless steel does.
510 thread adaptors
Pod mods that use a proprietary connection cannot take a standard tank without an adaptor. Those adaptors are device specific rather than generic. The Geek Vape Aegis Boost adaptor fits the Boost family. The Sigelei Humvee 80 adaptor fits the Humvee. Neither will do the other's job.
Replacement glass and small parts
Glass is cut for one tank only, so order by the full model name including any suffix. Some parts are sold in multipacks, such as the Smok G16 replacement glass which comes in threes. If you have broken one you will almost certainly break another, so a spare in the drawer is time well spent.
What is worth keeping spare
A short list covers most emergencies. One spare set of cells for a removable battery mod. A spare drip tip, because it is the part most likely to disappear. A spare glass section for your main tank. A USB-C cable in the bag. None of these are expensive individually, yet any one of them missing can take a device out of use for days.
Checking fitment before you order
Have four details ready. The exact model name of your mod or kit including any Pro, Plus or Mini suffix. The cell size the battery bay takes if you are buying batteries. The drip tip standard your tank uses. The capacity of the glass you are replacing. With those four things a part can be matched with confidence rather than guessed at.

Which battery size does my mod take?
The mod decides it. Cell names describe the dimensions, so an 18650 is 18mm by 65mm, a 20700 is 20mm by 70mm and a 21700 is 21mm by 70mm. The size is normally printed inside the battery door or listed in the manual. Some 21700 mods ship with a sleeve that lets them take an 18650 as well.
Is a higher mAh battery always better?
Not for every setup. Capacity in mAh tells you how long a cell lasts between charges. The continuous discharge rating in amps tells you how hard it can be pushed. High capacity cells usually have a lower amp rating, so a high wattage sub ohm build should prioritise the amp figure while a low wattage mouth to lung device can take the larger capacity instead.
Do I need an external battery charger?
You do not have to have one, although it makes life easier with a removable cell mod. An external charger lets you top up a spare set while another set is in use, keeps the charging load off the mod and shows what each cell is doing. Charge on a hard surface rather than on soft furnishings and stay in the building while it runs.
What should I do if the wrap on my battery is torn?
Stop using it until it has been rewrapped. The wrap is the only insulation on the cell and a tear near the positive end can allow a short against the inside of the mod or against anything metal in a pocket. Replacement wraps are inexpensive. A cell with a damaged wrap should never be carried loose.
Can I mix two different batteries in a dual cell mod?
No. Cells in a dual battery device should be the same brand and model, bought at the same time, charged together and used together as a pair. Mixing cells of different age or capacity makes them discharge unevenly, which puts extra strain on the weaker one.
What is the difference between a 510 and an 810 drip tip?
It is the fitment size. A 510 tip has a narrow post and a small bore, which suits mouth to lung tanks and gives a tighter draw. An 810 tip is the wide bore type used on sub ohm tanks for direct to lung vaping. They do not swap between tanks without an adaptor, so check which one your tank takes before ordering.
