Choosing between the two sizes is mostly a question of length. A regular paper is the original short format that suits a compact solo roll with no tip. A 1.25 paper is around a quarter longer again, which is where the name comes from. That extra length leaves room for a filter tip without the roll feeling cramped. Regular papers, also sold as single wide
A regular paper measures roughly 68mm to 70mm long by 34mm to 36mm wide. It is the classic cigarette paper format and has been the default in the UK for decades. With no spare width to play with, a regular paper works best rolled thin without a tip. The Ezee Regular Green and the Elements Green Single Wide in this collection are both cut to this size.
The 1.25 size
1.25 papers, spoken as one and a quarter, run to about 76mm to 78mm long by 44mm to 46mm wide. That extra width is what makes them forgiving. You can seat a tip at one end, keep the fill even and still have enough paper left to close the roll neatly. Most of the Raw papers listed here are 1.25s, including the Classic, the Black and the Organic.
Paper materials and how they differ
Unbleached hemp
Raw Classic is the reference point for unbleached paper. It is made from hemp with no chlorine bleaching, which is why it arrives that translucent light brown rather than white. The gum line is natural tree sap. Raw Organic uses certified organic hemp and carries the same natural gum.
Ultra thin papers
Raw Black is the thin end of the range. The paper is pressed to a lower weight so there is less material burning alongside what you have rolled, which suits anyone who finds a standard paper too present in the taste. Thin papers are less forgiving to handle.
Rice papers
Elements Green is a rice paper with a sugar based gum line rather than tree sap. Rice papers are cut very fine and are the usual pick for anyone who wants the paper itself to stay as neutral as possible.
Connoisseur packs and creaseless papers
Two Raw formats in this collection are worth explaining because the names give nothing away. A Connoisseur pack is a booklet of papers with a booklet of tips built into the same pack, so you are not buying tips separately or tearing up card at the last minute. What is the difference between hemp and rice papers?
