Choosing between the two resistances
0.7 ohm mesh
The 0.7 ohm mesh coil sits in the middle ground that a lot of vapers actually want. It is sub ohm, so it runs warmer and produces more vapour than a mouth to lung coil, yet it is not so low that it demands a wide open airflow. Mesh heats evenly across a broad surface, which gives quick ramp up and a clean flavour. Run it with a high VG liquid at 3mg to 6mg on a restricted direct to lung draw.
1.2 ohm
The 1.2 ohm coil is the mouth to lung choice. Less power reaches the coil, the draw is tighter and the vapour is cooler and more concentrated. This is the resistance to pick if you want a cigarette like inhale or you are running a 10ml nic salt at 10mg to 20mg. It also sips liquid far more slowly than the mesh option, which matters if you are watching what you spend on e-liquid.
Mesh against traditional round wire
A round wire coil is a wrapped strand of resistance wire sitting inside the cotton. Mesh is a flat perforated sheet. The practical difference is surface area. Mesh puts more heated metal against the wick, so it ramps faster and spreads heat evenly instead of forming hot spots.
Getting a full life out of a Hellcoil
Prime it before you fire it. Wet the exposed cotton at the wicking ports until it looks damp, fit the coil, fill the tank and let it stand for five minutes. Then begin at the low end of the coil's wattage range and climb slowly. Keep the tank above a quarter full so the wick is never starved, since a dry hit does permanent damage in a fraction of a second.
Expect one to two weeks from a coil in normal use. Heavily sweetened e-liquid is what kills them early. Sucralose bakes onto the mesh, forms a dark crust and blocks the wick, so a dessert or candy flavour will get through coils far faster than a citrus or menthol blend.

It reaches temperature quickly, heats evenly instead of forming hot spots and usually keeps a clean flavour for longer. Round wire is still common on rebuildable decks where the vaper wraps the coil themselves.
Why does my coil taste burnt so quickly?
Almost always priming or e-liquid. A coil fired dry scorches the cotton permanently in a second. Soak the wicking ports, fill the tank and wait five minutes before the first draw. Sweetened e-liquids also caramelise onto the coil and choke the wick, so dessert and candy flavours shorten coil life sharply compared with fruit or menthol.
Do Hellvape coils fit other manufacturers' tanks?
They are not intended to. Coil bases vary between brands in diameter, thread and the position of the wicking slots, so a coil from another family can seal badly or register an incorrect resistance.
