Burnt coil needing replacement

Most common cause in UK 2026 rechargeable vape kits. Coil lifespan: heavy users (50+ puffs/day) 5-10 days; moderate users (20-30 puffs/day) 2-3 weeks; light users (less than 20 puffs/day) 3-4 weeks. Inadequate priming

New coil installed without proper priming will produce burnt taste from first puff. Proper priming process: install new coil into pod or tank; remove pod from device; drip 3-5 drops of e-liquid directly onto exposed cotton holes around the coil; reassemble pod with full e-liquid fill; insert pod into device; let sit upright for 5-10 minutes before first use. Take 2-3 small short test puffs initially before normal use.

Low e-liquid level

Pod or tank low; insufficient liquid soaking coil produces burnt taste. Why this happens: e-liquid feeds coil through wick capillary action; below 25% pod fill, wick cannot draw enough liquid; produces dry hits and burnt taste. Solution: refill before pod drops below 25%; UK pod kits typically have viewing window or transparent pod for visual check. Practical UK 2026 advice: refill at every charge cycle (every 1-2 days for moderate users); always carry spare e-liquid in 10ml bottle.

Chain vaping

Rapid puffs do not allow wick to re-saturate. Why this causes burnt taste: each puff vaporises e-liquid from wick; capillary action takes time to draw fresh liquid from reservoir; consecutive rapid puffs vaporise dry wick fibres producing burnt taste. Solution: 30-60 second gap between puffs allows wick to re-saturate; especially important at higher wattages and with sweet e-liquids. 4-5 second draws maximum (longer dries the coil); MTL cigarette-like draws better than aggressive DTL pulls for pod kits.

Wattage too high

Pushing coil beyond designed power range produces burnt taste. Why this happens: each coil has a wattage range printed on the coil itself (e.g. '25-40W'); wattage above the range vaporises e-liquid faster than wick can re-saturate; produces burnt taste and shortens coil life. Solution: check coil wattage range; reduce mod wattage to bottom or middle of range (e.g. for 25-40W coil, start at 25-30W and adjust up if needed). Most regulated box mods have wattage adjustment buttons; pod kits may have draw activation only or simple wattage modes (eco, normal, boost).

Sweet e-liquid clogging

Sweetener (typically sucralose) caramelises on coil. Why this happens: sucralose is stable artificial sweetener used in most sweet e-liquids; at vaping temperatures (200-300°C) breaks down and forms caramelised residue on coil wire; reduces heat transfer; coil burns out faster; reduces wicking efficiency. Sweet flavour categories most affected: dessert (vanilla custard, ice cream); candy (gummy bears, lollipops); soda/drink (cola, energy drinks); heavily sweetened fruit blends. Less affected flavours: tobacco, menthol/mint, simple fruit, citrus. Mesh coils handle sweet e-liquid slightly better than older wire coils.
