How Much Is Tobacco in Turkey
How much is tobacco in Turkey?
A clear UK 2026 traveller guide. Short answer: cigarettes £1.50-2 per pack of 20, dramatically cheaper than UK but allowance still limits.
The short answer
Very cheap88-115 TL. £1.50-2 per pack.
Turkey 2026: cigarettes 88-115 lira per pack of 20 (£1.50-2). UK comparison £15-17 saves £13-15 per pack within the 200 cig UK allowance.
53-75 TL
Cheapest local brands
200
UK cig allowance per adult
Turkey 2026 cigarette prices are dramatically cheaper than UK or EU prices. Major international brands: Marlboro 88-100 lira per pack of 20 (around £1.50-1.70). Camel and Parliament 100-115 lira (£1.70-1.95). L&M and Chesterfield 80-90 lira (£1.35-1.55). Local Turkish brands: Tekel 2000 (most consumed brand) around 60-75 lira (£1-1.30). Hazar, MMC, Medley around 50-70 lira (£0.85-1.20). Cheapest registered brands around 53-75 lira per pack. Following inflation and successive ÖTV (excise tax) rises, prices have increased steadily but remain low in pound terms due to the depreciated Turkish lira. Compared to UK packs at £15-17, Turkish cigarettes are roughly 85-90% cheaper per pack within Turkey. The big catch: UK personal allowance still applies at 200 cigarettes (10 packs) per adult. Within the allowance you save roughly £130-150 per traveller. Above the allowance, UK duty makes any further saving impossible. Turkey's cheap tobacco prices are partly a result of the depreciated lira and partly because Turkish excise rates remain lower than EU averages, though they have risen sharply since 2022.

Turkey tobacco prices in detail
Turkey raised cigarette prices in February 2026 with some brands now hitting 115 lira per pack. Here is the full picture.
International brands: 88-115 lira per pack
Major imported and licensed-in-Turkey brands. Marlboro Red Long: around 87-100 lira (£1.50-1.70). Marlboro Premium variants: up to 115 lira (£1.95) following February 2026 hike. Parliament Night Blue Long: around 89-100 lira. Camel: 88-115 lira depending on variant. Winston: 80-95 lira. L&M: 47-90 lira (older lower price reports). Chesterfield: similar range. Lark and Muratti: similar to Marlboro. UK comparison: roughly £15-17 per pack for these same brands. Turkey saves £13-15 per pack within the allowance.
Local Turkish brands: 50-75 lira per pack
Cheaper Turkish-produced brands. Tekel 2000 (the most consumed brand in Turkey): around 60-75 lira (£1-1.30). Tekel was the former Turkish state tobacco monopoly, privatised in 2008; the brand remains popular with locals. Decent quality and taste. Hazar: around 50-65 lira. MMC: similar 50-65 lira. Medley: 55-70 lira. Point Blue: budget tier, around 50-60 lira. These local brands offer the maximum savings vs UK prices: a pack costs around £0.85-1.30 vs UK £15-17, saving £14-16 per pack. Local Turkish brands are not commonly sold at UK or Turkish airport duty-free which focus on international brands; you need to buy at supermarkets or town tabacs.
Hand-rolling tobacco: less common in Turkey
Hand-rolling tobacco is much less common in Turkey than the UK because Turkish cigarette prices are so low that rolling tobacco offers limited cost savings vs ready-made cigarettes. Some Turkish brands of pipe tobacco and rolling tobacco exist but are not widely sold. Travellers seeking hand-rolling tobacco are typically better off in France, Spain or Belgium. The same UK 250g personal allowance applies if you do bring hand-rolling tobacco from Turkey.
Where to buy: chain supermarkets safest
Three main options for UK travellers in Turkey. Chain supermarkets (Migros, Carrefour, Macro): standard retail prices, guaranteed authentic, widest brand selection. The safest option for tourists. Licensed tabacs: small tobacconists in towns and cities, similar prices to supermarkets, also reliable for authenticity. Airport duty-free (departure or arrival): typically 5-10% cheaper than supermarkets for international brands. Some bulk purchase discounts (e.g. 3 cartons of 200 for around €70). Avoid: tourist-area corner shops, beach hawkers, market stalls. Counterfeit Marlboro and Camel are a real problem in tourist resorts; some estimates put fake cigarettes in resorts at 4-50% of stock depending on year and location. Stick with chain stores or duty-free.
Turkey's tobacco price history
Turkey's tobacco prices have risen sharply since 2022. The Turkish lira has depreciated significantly against major currencies, eroding savings for British and European travellers. Domestic prices have risen too. 2022 saw three price increases: ÖTV (excise tax) up 47%, then 20%, then 25%, totalling 2.5x within the year. 2023-2025: annual increases continued, typically in spring. February 2026: latest increase pushed some premium brands to 115 lira. Despite all these increases, Turkish cigarette prices remain at roughly £1.50-2 per pack vs UK £15-17, due to the depreciated lira. Future price trajectory: continued ÖTV increases expected as Turkey balances inflation pressure with tobacco revenue and public health goals.
UK personal allowance trap
The UK 200 cigarettes per adult allowance is the practical cap on Turkey savings. Within the allowance: save £130-150 per traveller per trip. Above the allowance: full UK duty applies at £319.62 per 1000 cigarettes (specific) plus 16.5% ad valorem (percentage of UK retail price) plus 20% VAT. Bringing 1 carton (200 cigarettes) over the allowance and declaring it costs roughly £80-90 in UK duty on around £15-20 worth of Turkish cigarettes. The UK retail price of equivalent cigarettes is roughly £150-170 so duty plus Turkey purchase price still beats UK price by some margin, but only marginally and at the cost of having to declare and process at customs. Smuggling above the allowance carries seizure risk. The smart move: stay within 200 cigarettes per adult.
