The UK introduced a Vape Tax in October 2026 announced in the 2024 Spring Budget. The tax adds £2.20 per 10ml of e-liquid regardless of nicotine strength, with proportional charges on other sizes. 10ml nic salts: £4-6 pre-tax, now £6-8. 100ml shortfills: £15-25 pre-tax, now £37-47 with tax (£22 tax on 100ml). Pre-filled pods: £3-5 each pre-tax, now £4-6 with proportional tax. The tax does not apply to vape kits or hardware, only e-liquid. The aim is to discourage non-smoker uptake while preserving vaping as a smoking cessation option. Despite the tax, vaping remains 60-80% cheaper than smoking for equivalent nicotine intake. Tobacco duty also rose under the annual escalator alongside the Vape Tax to maintain the cost gap between smoking and vaping.
